First what is semi-tethered jailbreak
I would like to go a bit deeper with tethered jailbreak first. If you have a tethered jailbreak iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, when you reboot your iDevices, you always have to connect it to PC or Mac and use Redsn0w to bring back all functions. If you reboot your device without connecting you PC or Mac, you won’t be able to use the function of the phone.
For semi-tethered jailbreak, it means that you can reboot and use your device without having to connect to PC or Mac but only small functions are available. You still can connect to your PC or Mac to bring back the function whenever possible.
Note: iPhone 4S and iPad 2 can’t jailbreak due to advance hardware.
Download requirement before start
- Download iTunes 10.5 for Mac or Windows
- Download iOS 5.0.1 for your devices
- Download Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8
Now you can follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Backup your iDevices and restore it with the iOS 5.0.1 which was just downloaded.
Step 2: Open Redsn0w and select Extras > IPSW > browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file (it will automatically browse to iOS 5.0.1).
Step 3: Now click on Jailbreak > Install Cydia. More instructions will appear and it is simple to follow. It will get you into DFU mode.
Step 4: Now wait a moment and your device will be jailbroken and reboot. It is done for the jailbroken. You note that your device reboot and you can to connect it to PC or Mac to semi tethered it so do not unplug your device and stay connected. If you unplug it now, you won’t be able to enjoy full functions of the phone till you do the semi-tethered.
Step 5: Semi-tethered your device with Redsn0w. Once it is rebooted and your device is connected to PC or Mac, you can open Redsn0w again and “Extract” and select “Just Boot”
Note: You can follow Step 5 again and again when you reboot your device.
